I was reading this talk from General Conference this morning, and I love the way Sister Stevens talks about the inner strength and faith of a child.
After spending a semester at a children's hospital for the past few months, I saw a lot of that strength and faith.. and especially love. The way children love without prejudice is just amazing to me.
Tonight I was able to put my 2 year old nephew to bed. I had babysat him and his 2 cousins all night and being the favorite aunt that I am, I let them have a little more "nandy" (candy) that I should have and let them be a little crazier than normal. What??!! It's part of my auntie duty.
So when bedtime came around, he was a little wound up. I read him a story, said prayers, and brushed his teeth, yet...he was still being a spaz. Shocker.
So I quietly turned off the light, and laid next to him.
He immediately turned around so that he could face me. He grabbed my hand and started stroking my fingernail. Then after a while he took my hand, put it on his chest, wrapped his precious little hands around my arm, and fell asleep.
"Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." Matt 18:3.
How precious these little guys are to our Heavenly Father. That sweet moment with my nephew made me forget all about how he is awesome at screaming at the top of his lungs, or spilling stuff, or constantly asking one of us to go out on the deck with him. He is a child of God and isn't here to be taught, as much as he's here to teach us.
