I hoped and prayed this day would never come.

This is my dog Kitty. She's only 10 years old, but I found out yesterday that she has a failing liver and they don't expect it to un-fail.
I don't mean to be over-dramatic, but I don't think I've ever cried harder in my entire life, for as long, as I have in the past day.
We have had Kitty since before I can remember. She's been my "little sister"...especially when all the brothers moved out.
Memories of Kitty
- crying on her shoulder-which sounds silly, but I could tell she could tell that I needed her.
- she always would stay up and watch tv with me, then when I went up to bed, she would follow.
- she always would sleep in my room. and sometimes when my mom would come to get her in the morning to go for their walk, she wouldn't want to come. my mom would say that kitty would look at me, then back at her, as if to say "can't you see she's still sleeping? she needs me to protect her!"
- taking her on a 5 mile run with me, almost killing her. haha, sorry kitty.
- the first day we got her-taking her home in our gold honda. she was so nervous, she couldn't stop shaking. she's always been a cautious dog.
- sitting next to her when she eats-for some reason it always fascinated me.
- sneaking her into our beds so we could cuddle with her. i know you hated it mom, but we still did it.
- how she always used to stay by my side when i was sick or unhappy. for some reason, she could always tell.
- her excitement when we picked her up from the kennel after a vacation....
- her greetings after a long day at school
- her kisses
- her sweet demeanor
- the way she would nudge you as if to say "HELLLOOO, PETTT ME!!!"
- her excitement over going to the lake. it was her favorite thing ever! it was like a buffet-all the goosepoop she could eat!!
- EVERYONE LOVED Kitty!!!! EVERYONE! That was one of the first things that people would say when they would come over-"Your dog is so awesome!" No lie.
- The neighborhood kids would love to come and take Kitty for a walk. She was always thrilled when that happened.
- she hated the UPS man with a passion. HATED HIM! she would bark her poor heart out-she showed him who's boss, hah
if you couldn't already tell, kitty was the best dog in the world. i've spent more of my life with her, than anyone else (besides my parents). we were so lucky to have such a perfect dog-well behaved, cute, playful, obedient, and SO SWEET.
I did this post more for me than anything else. I feel a little stupid being so upset over a dog, but she's the best dog in the world, one of my best friends. (WO) MAN'S BEST FRIEND. It's so hard to let go of someone who has always been there and has played such a major role in your life. And the worst part is that I probably won't get to say goodbye because I'm 1,000 miles away from her. That just kills me.
I'm going to miss you everyday Kitty. We all are. It won't be the same without you.

That is so sad!! We have a cat named Fluffy and we have had him for 3 years. I have grown quite attached to him:) So sorry to hear the news.
We have been crying with you Whit. I don't know how to explain to Carter that Kitty's not going to be with us anymore. Two of my favorite memories to add to yours would be:
When we fist moved there after Carter was born, anytime I put Carter down for his nap Kitty would stay at the door in a very protective manner until he was up.
And EVERYONE loves how Kitty can turn into the most vicious dog in the world (all pretend of course) and then calm down within 2 seconds afterwards.
She is so great and will be horribly missed!!!
